On January 30th, The Education Trust–New York launched The New York Campaign for Early Literacy — a statewide movement to improve student reading outcomes, from birth to age 8. The Campaign is a continuum of their work to ensure New York State and local school districts prioritize early literacy and the science of reading. Schools and families should not, in isolation, address the literacy challenge in New York. Afterschool, summer, and other expanded learning programs are positioned to serve as partners providing high-quality, early literacy support.

We will also spotlight how several afterschool and community-based organizations are promoting early literacy through innovative initiatives and partnerships.
