On January 30th, The Education TrustโNew York launched The New York Campaign for Early Literacy โ a statewide movement to improve student reading outcomes, from birth to age 8. The Campaign is a continuum of their work to ensure New York State and local school districts prioritize early literacy and the science of reading. Schools and families should not, in isolation, address the literacy challenge in New York. Afterschool, summer, and other expanded learning programs are positioned to serve as partners providing high-quality, early literacy support.
Join the New York State Network for Youth Success for the release of our new policy brief to learn more about how high-quality expanded learning opportunities foster early literacy education. We will also spotlight how several afterschool and community-based organizations are promoting early literacy through innovative initiatives and partnerships.
