SUMMARY:SAC Distance Learning
DESCRIPTION:Info: \nDistance Learning is just as demanding as traditional classroom based education\, and requires significantly more self-motivation and time management skills. \nThe Distance Learning School Age Care (SAC) Preparatory Course includes viewing recorded videos\, reading\, and substantial writing – both to meet credential requirements as well as serve as class discussion and interaction. Technological requirements for distance learning students include: high speed Internet and access to a digital camera. Students can expect to spend a minimum of 4 hours weekly on coursework. \nThe New York State Education Incentive Program (EIP) has approved this course as an eligible distance-learning course. The cost of this course is $900.00 per 14 week semester\, for a total course cost of $1\,800.00. A $100.00 non-refundable deposit is required to secure your registration in our upcoming course. This amount will be applied to your total tuition. In addition\, a current Network for Youth Success membership is required prior to registration. The candidate’s signature at the bottom of the application form indicates their obligation to satisfy full payment for this class in the event they are not awarded EIP funds covering the full course cost. Tuition payments are non-refundable. (EIP is not available for non-New York State residents. Please contact us if you have questions about other funding streams in your state and whether we accept those forms of payment/vouchers.) \nPlease note that your commitment to the required coursework and ability to complete assignments\, engage in online discussions\, and access to both the Internet and email is essential. This is a demanding course\, and we ask that you consider your ability to complete both semesters prior to applying. Students who attend three or more class sessions are required to pay tuition for the entire semester. \nCompletion of the SAC Credential Preparatory Course does not ensure that the SAC Credential will be awarded. Successful course completion includes development of a Portfolio\, a Resource File\, and at least 3 observations from a local Advisor. (The candidate is responsible in selecting an Advisor who MUST then complete the mandatory Advisor training to be approved.) Upon completion of the Distance Learning SAC Preparatory Course\, a candidate may request an assessment to determine approval for the SAC Credential. A payment of $1\,000.00 is required for this evaluation. All SAC Credential candidates working in programs licensed by New York State OCFS are eligible to receive 100% of the assessment fee through EIP regardless of income status as long as funds are available. \nDates: \n\nPart 1 – Fall 2021 – Sept 14-Dec 21\nPart 2 – Spring 22  – Jan 18-April 26\n\nLink:\nFor more information click here.

SUMMARY:MLK Day Mini-Conference
DESCRIPTION:Join Timothy Fowler of the Network for Youth Success for a day of professional development for front-line staff! He will lead three different topics across the day: \n\nBeyond the Behavior: Guiding Challenging Behaviors (OCFS 1\, 3; CBK 1\, 4)\nExploring Culture in Afterschool (OCFS 3; CBK 4)\nFacilitating an Inclusive Learning Environment for STEAM (OCFS 3; CBK 4)\n\nEach session will be 1.5 hours long\, for a total of 4.5 hours of training in one day. Click here to register! \nBeyond the Behavior: Many afterschool professionals have to handle challenging behaviors on a regular basis. In this workshop we will identify behavior challenges we may see in a school-age setting and we will unpack them to discover what is behind the behavior. Based on real-life scenarios\, we will have discussions around proactive strategies to stop the unwanted behaviors before they start\, and what to do once the behaviors have begun. \nExploring Culture in Afterschool: Cultural identity is foundational is our lives. Look at ways to share and explore culture in a respectful way\, that allows understanding of children’s own traditions while exploring others. This workshop will focus on activities and practices in a center-based school-age care setting. Participants will walk away with tips and resources to explore culture in an intentional way. \nFacilitating an Inclusive Learning Environment for STEAM: Involving all youth in STEAM activity\, and overcoming any potential barriers to participating\, is a critical component of good youth development work. In this workshop learn practices and approaches to creating inclusion in a typical STEAM activity. This session will allow participant to experience the practice and identify how to bring it back to their programs. This workshop is for participants who work with school-age children in a group setting. \nThese sessions will be delivered virtually using the Zoom platform. Due to limits on attendance\, please plan on attending all three sessions. Registration for individual sessions (1 of 3 sessions or 2 of 3 sessions) will not be permitted. All sessions will count for OCFS training hours. \nCost: $60.00 per participant. Cost includes all three sessions. Full day registration only (cannot pick and choose sessions). \nClick here to register!
