Afterschool public funding history: The NYS Network for Youth Success created two resources that summarize and outline the various afterschool, summer, and expanded learning funding sources in New York. The Afterschool Funding Stream Summary and the Afterschool Statewide Fiscal Map can help afterschool advocates better understand existing funding streams including their current and historic funding levels, the agencies that administer them, and the target populations for the funding streams. These resources summarize the varied funding sources available to afterschool providers to support youth and families in their communities. SAC Spotlight: Meet Tamica Brown Tamica Brown's journey as the Site Director for the Niagara Falls Boys and Girls Club at Hyde Park Elementary began in October 2023, but her connection with working with children runs deep. Tamica is passionate about this field, finding joy in every aspect of her work. She believes that shaping young minds is not just a job, but a calling. Tamica's entry into early childhood education was initially out of necessity, seeking a job that aligned with her life as a single mother while allowing her time with her child. Despite initial challenges and doubts, Tamica persevered, drawing on her strong work ethic from her previous experience in the service industry. Over time, she honed her skills and gained a reputation as the "kid whisperer," a title that motivated her to work even harder. The satisfaction she felt from being a positive impact on youth and receiving appreciation from parents, employers, and children solidified Tamica's commitment to the field. Through the SAC Credential course, she found validation in her approach, realizing that the lessons taught were principles she had been applying all along. Although, she initially enrolled in the course as a job requirement, Tamica found it to be invaluable for her career, providing her with new ideas and opportunities for interaction with youth. Tamica's story is one of determination, growth, and dedication to making a difference in the lives of children. Her journey exemplifies the transformative power of passion and perseverance in the field of childcare and education. ... See MoreSee Less
