Developing Students, Engaging Communities: A Summit on Local Leadership for Afterschool, Summer, and Expanded Learning Opportunities

In 2014 The Network for Youth Success (NYSAN at the time) and the New York State Cradle to Career Alliance convened a summit, hosted by Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown, at the Burchfield Penney Art Center in Buffalo. More than 100 attendees, including the mayors of four of New York’s largest cities, gathered to discuss how local leaders can support communities working together to build and sustain high-quality, accessible afterschool, summer, and expanded learning opportunities. Speakers highlighted initiatives at all levels of local government, in areas both urban and rural, and a panel of Buffalo leaders offered a deep dive into their citywide initiative to expand afterschool programs to all public schools.
